The new chief executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is to be John Pelly.

John is a highly experienced NHS professional with nearly 18 years experience in healthcare. He will be joining Moorfields from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Trust in Woolwich, where he is currently chief executive. Prior to that he had held positions as the chief operating officer and the director of finance at Guy's and St Thomas' before it became an NHS foundation trust.

John will take up the top job top at Moorfields early in April 2008.

Commenting on his appointment, John Pelly said: 

"I am delighted to be joining Moorfields, one of the UK's pre-eminent clinical and academic institutions, at such an exciting time in its development. In doing so, I am conscious that I will be following in the footsteps of Ian Balmer, who has done so much over so many years to ensure Moorfields' success, and very much hope that I will be able to continue to do so with the support of the excellent staff of the hospital".
