The research and development department at Moorfields has many functions including:

  • developing research programmes to improve clinical services,
  • identifying and prioritising areas of research needed,
  • facilitating collaborative research efforts, locally, nationally and internationally,
  • providing administrative support for researchers and projects, including funding sources,
  • monitoring research projects to ensure they comply with research governance and ethics guidelines,
  • helping to publish the results of research in medical and scientific journals, and
  • ensuring that research complies with the requirements of the Department of Health.

We are a large department consisting of over 20 staff, from director and manager to applications and design staff, co-coordinators, image graders and more, organised into various sub departments such as the Image Grading Centre, The Clinical Trials Unit and the core research and development service.
